Those who are always trying to project or boost themselves are generally less trusted. Conversely those who focus on others with attitudes and behaviours of respect, are more trusted.
Be humble.
Trust is the essential ingredient for effective leadership and teamwork.
Approach every decision and action with the question "Will this increase or decrease trust in the relationship and amongst the group".
You do not have to be perfect to be trusted.
Do not assume trust is in good shape. Develop a strategy to build it on your team.
